Spring is an extraordinary season, everything blooms again, loves are born, and the colors of nature are bright and intense. Birds build their nests where they lay their eggs.
Males begin their mating calls and for many species building the nest is part of the courtship ritual. Learning to recognize the different species by their song, colorful plumage, and various courtship strategies is a unique experience.
This year, we have joyfully witnessed day after day the meticulous creation of a nest by a pair of swallows, exactly under the canopy of our Agency.
And here, a month after their arrival and after weeks of incubation, 5 little swallows peeked out from the nest.
We are pleased to welcome these nestlings to our Milano San Felice neighborhood, dedicating this brief article to them and describing some bird species that frequent our gardens.
5 bird species in our beautiful gardens of Milano San Felice
- Robin
It is a small, very common European songbird. Despite its small size, it is known for its bold behavior. It has a plump appearance and shows confident behavior towards humans.
- Jay
A robust bird and one of the most beautiful in Europe. Both sexes look similar. The female lays 5-7 grayish eggs with brown spots. After hatching, the young remain in the nest for 19-20 days.
- Wallcreeper
A bird widespread throughout almost all of Europe, it is a sedentary species. Its uniqueness lies in being able to descend trees headfirst without problems.
- Chaffinch
A small-sized bird (19-23 gr.). The male marks the breeding territory by emitting the characteristic song “in verses” repeated throughout the day.
- Great Tit
It lives in coniferous forests, not overlooking parks, gardens, and orchards. It nests in the protected cavities of trees, walls, and nest boxes, building the nest with moss, fur, and feathers. It crushes food with its beak, holding it firmly with its feet.
Il Folio also wrote about the swallow’s nest in its article of June 23, which we include here.
